Pocket Bike Tips

I want to do a guide on how to buy and look out for dodgy pocket bikes. They range in prices from as low as $200 for a Chinese 37cc to $6000 for a Euro 49cc. I will start with the low priced first as there are more of them on Ebay. The difference between a cheaper and a more expensive bike is the quality of the bike overall. This include welding of the frame, nuts and bolts, how well the engine had been put together, etc. These bikes are "copies" or "replicas" of some Euro bikes. They are made in China and the quality control is not perfect. There are Air-Cooled and Liqud-Cooled. Air-cooled are slower than liquide-cooled, it doesn't matter how much you spend upgrading the engine, it will still have a hard time keeping up with the liquid-cooled. So if you have the money, buy a liquid-cooled.Don't be fooled by sellers claiming their bike can do 120km, the world record for a pocket bike was set in US at 60 mph (or something like that). Air-cooled engines in stock form can do 40km/h, liquide-cooled can go up to 80 km/h stock. Some of the bigger sized bike comes with a speedo, they are very inaccurate and will show double the speed of what you are actually doing.Things can go wrong and will happen more often with a low priced bike. Engine can blow up, wheels falling off, etc. It is not hard to fix, but it will be very frustrating. Believe me, I've been there. The reason why a person would buy a more expensive bike is mostly the speed of the engine. CAGs is about 3hp, while an Euro will have upto 15hp.There are some bike from China that is very good, and can keep up with a Euro. Banshee is 10hp, Z1 is 12hp. Search google under pocket bike forums, and you will find very helpful tips.

Switchbaiting for the Beginner.
Getting a Marlin or Sailfish up to the back of your boat when trolling lures is sometimes quite easy. Getting the Billfish to take one of the lures in the spread can be frustrating. Many times I have had Marlin cruise up into the Lure spread to have them hang around looking at the lures for a while and not getting any interest, then calmly swimming away.
I have started trying Switchbaiting to a Livebait

FJ40,BJ40, FJ45 ect. buying guide - and explaination

This guide will explain most of the Toyota Landcruiser models made from 1960 until 1983 and their variations
There ARE many variations -
The early models have different doors, engines even the bonnet can change!
The FJ40 started production in 1960 and though to 1976 there were no changes. In 1976 they added disk brakes (recommended) and in 1979 they added air conditioning and power steering to the options (if you can find one with both of these options it should be a great buy!) their were also models like the FJ41 and FJ42 which are basically the same. These cars are known as Short Wheel Base (SWB) models. ALL FJ models had a petrol engine (leaded petrol)
The FJ45 was avaliable in a troop carrier (troopie) which was a very short lived cruiser. Or a ute version both of these were long wheel base (LWB) models. ALL FJ models had a petrol engine (leaded petrol)
The engines used in these Petrol cars were the F engine and the 2F engine. the F engine was a 6cyl 3.8 litre engine ranging from 105-to-125 Horse power and was used from 1960 to 1974. The 2F is a 6cyl 4.2 litre engine producing 135 horse power and was used from 1974 to 1984.
The BJ40 is the diesel version of the FJ40 it had a 4cyl

My dream car

As we all know, ebay is THE place to find almost everything you are looking for at a reasonable price.

I found my dream car on ebay. A beautiful shiny purple XR 8 falcon. And
look at the starting bid price! WOW!! I can afford that! and look at
the buy it now option. That can't be right?? these things are worth 5
times that!

O.K. I'm interested. No, more than interested. I WANT IT! YESTERDAY!!

Lets contact the seller (the seller wants you to contact them to be
placed on the approved bidders list). Contact email was sent through
ebay together with an O.K whats wrong with the car question.

Email promptly returned with the response that there is nothing wrong
with the car, just can't be registered in the USA. Alright then, sounds
reasonable. Me thinks that there is still something suspicious about
the deal.

The next series of emails happen outside of ebay as the seller uses
your personal email address for all further correspondence. O.K said I,
I'll buy the car from you and have it shipped back to Australia. I
Provided the requested details of who I was and where the car was to be
shipped to the seller. Bingo the cars mine I thinks. I return to ebay
to complete the buy it now option. Thats strange. The advert has
dissapeared. Oh, well me thinks. The seller has removed the ad due to
me offering to buy the car.

The next email requests that I send via Western union, a deposit to
start the shipping ball rolling. Um, sorry mister seller, can't do that
its outside the ebay rules and not safe to do so. No problem replies
the seller, we'll use an escrow agent appointed by the shipping company
to handle the transaction and that way your money will be safe and
won't be released until the car arrives and you're satisfied with it. I
have arranged buyers insurance to further protect your money for you.
The car will arrive in 5 - 6 days. Alarm bells start to ring. A ship
that can sail from America to Australia after waiting to be loaded that
quick!WOW!! I think I want the ship intead (It's obviously faster than
the car!!). Bugger it, I want the ship so I can enter the Americas cup
and win it for Australia. We're going to be GUARANTEED to win it again!

I send the seller another request email to obtain all the essential
information about the car. i.e. Registration number, VIN number Engine
number etc. I think I'll play the game and see where it leads. Its
highly unlikely that I'm really going to get the car that cheap but
stranger things have been known to happen. You know the story, a friend
of a friend of mine bought this car real cheap as the result of divorce
proceedings etc. The ad is at least no longer on ebay. The seller sais
no problem, here are the details of the car you require.

Shortly thereafter, an email arrives from a US shipping company. An
independant escrow agent has been appointed and the Western Union
transfer needs to be made to this 3rd party in order to commence the
shipping process. OK, the email looks official, has a shipping tracking
number that can be traced. Even has a fax number to send the payment
details to.

I decide I best look a little deeper. A good search engine locates the
shipping company for me no problem. I enter the tracking number and
alas its no good. It's Sunday in the US the shipping company is closed
until Monday. It's possible that the details haven't hit their system
yet.

I decide that speaking to the seller is a good idea at this point and
request a telephone number. It is provided no problem. Gee, the number
is even in America (and the right part of it). So is the fax
number.

Caravan antennas - useful or not

Are caravan antennas useful or not? An impartial review of one carried out over 3 months of 2007.
I own a campervan, and have a television on board. I was eagre to see if one of the popular omni directional television antennas that were around would help bring in the television signal. I purchased one over a year ago. It is one of the round ones that has a moulded 6 section flat shape. As shown in the picture below.

They are almost always sold with a powered signal booster. I mounted it on a raisable pole on the back of the campervan then connected up all of the cables. I then conducted a number of tests to see how effective it was. In comparison I tested it against my conventional rabbit ears antenna which comes with a dial in resistor to adjust the picture.
Without the signal booster the caravan antenna performed woefully. The picture and sound quality were poor on all three televisions I plugged it into, including my new LCD digital television. The rabbit ears antenna performed much better. These tests were carried out over a period of three months in a variety of weather conditions, and at a variety of locations. Only when within ten kilometres of the transmitting site with a direct line of sight to the transmitter did the antenna provide a good picture. In all cases the rabbit ears provided a better picture quality than the unboosted caravan antenna.
Switching on the signal booster provided an instant gain in picture and sound quality. However it quickly became apparent that using the signal booster with the rabbit ears produced an even better picture and sound quality on any of the three televisions I tested.
These tests tended to bear out what I had heard from other campervan owners, and from qualified engineer, Collyn Rivers, who writes books on solar power and has published articles about these antennas. His opinion of these antennas is that they are not worth purchasing. Their omni directional design pulls in signal from all direction, but not very well.
My conclusion is to forget about buying one of these, and either use an adjustable rabbit ears type antenna, or buy a signal booster and use that with a rabbit ears antenna. You can at least adjust the rabbit ears antenna and there will be no extra drag due to the externally mounted caravan antenna.

CHILD BOOSTER SEATS between 18kgs to 26 kgs

Booster Seats
For children weighing from around 18 kgs to 26kgs approx 7 year old child
A rigid booster seat with back and side wings is recommended by Kidsafe for children when they outgrow their forward facing child seat at around 18 kgs.
Never use a booster seat with a lap belt only.
When using a booster seat with a child harness remember to tightly adjust the lap seat belt over the hips then fit the harness snugly to child's upper body.

item never recieved(ripped off)

I bought an item from usa,i am in australia.
it was a car top for a convertible capri(ford in australia mercury in usa)item never arrived although my check was cashed, payment included insurance . Being a first time ebayer i didnt know how things worked so i left it too long before contacting seller (12 weeks) i was told it had been sent, many emails and 2 phone calls later the guy tells me he sent item and because it had been so long could not provide a tracking number and basically told me to bugger off, when i asked about insurance i paid he ignored the question.
after contacting ebay they told me all i could do was contact authorities(police)which all seemed too hard as im in aus and hes in usa.
so what im saying is beware especially if buying a top from "softtopguy"as i am out of pocket au$405 because of his slack book keeping

Diesel Fuel - Filling at Service Stations

Many diesel engine manufacturers rate their vehicles based on a full tank of fuel, however, many motorists don't fully fill the tank.At a service station, diesel coming out of the pump behaves like warm Pepsi or beer being poured into a glass - it's very frothy and takes some time to settle.

SUZUKI GSX1300R HAYABUSA

There are many motorbikes of all sorts to be had but the HAYABUSA is one that intrigues many. When it was released in 1999 and many ad's appeared featuring the Copper/Silver colour scheme it raised many an eyebrow.
Some commented "Wow that's one ugly machine". Perhaps because it was so unique. It looked so different then most bikes of it's time. It looked like a "Beast". At least these were my first impressions. But of course what drew the crowds around the HAYABUSA was the fact that it was the fastest production motorcycle ever made, well over 300 klm/h and stock standard. Needless to say I had to have one. I have had one since Nov '99 and have never looked back. The colour scheme grew on me and quite literally fell in love with it. I have been riding well over 30 years and frankly got bored with motorbikes and wanted to be re-invigorated. The Hayabusa most certainly did that for me. Even after 7 years every time I get on it I'm excited. This is one bike that I will never sell.
Now onto some practical advise for anyone considering one. Firstly I dont recommend the bike to those that have little experience on the road. Its a bike that can quickly get you into trouble. You will want to have a mature attitude respecting what this bike is capable of and act accordingly. I would say it is best to have at least 3-5 years road experience before getting one. Woman ride busas too, I know a few that ride them.
Some items often appearing here in Ebay for sale like the TRE (Timing Retard Eliminator). Many who have the restricted (speed) models like to install them as it fools the onboard computer that your still in 5th gear even though your in 6th. There are many 'Bling' parts that can bought for the bike enhancing its appearance, some are good quality some well not that good.
My 'Bling' are Remus cans, Tobin seat, Scorpio Alarm, Speedohealer, Supervox Stealth sprocket 43 tooth and many other little items.
Here is a pic of my "Beast"

If you found at least some of the information in my guide helpful, or even if you just got a cheap thrill reading and would love to have a busa, please vote on its helpfulness below. Thanx

Buying a Honda CT110 Postie Bike

The Honda Ct110 Postie bike is a small scooter style motorcycle that easy to ride and is cheap to run. Most bikes are ex Aussie post but for many years there was a farm version available to the public to buy new. These farm versions are different to ex post models and can be identified by having the speedo mounted in the top of the hedlight. Also they are fitted withe a front carry rack. They are not as good as ex post bikes as they arent as heavy duty. Although they usully have lower kms.Ex post bikes Have heav duty suspension, tyres, tubes, sealed batteries and a indicator buzzer. The best models to buy are the 1998 onwards models. These were upgraded with bigger handlebars, larger seat, updated forks, bigger rear drum brake, larger cush drive/drive rubbers. Pre 1998 models can be identified by the indicators mounted on the handlebars, small seat and lower handlbars. Low kms for a ex post bike is about 20 to 25 kms, average km abot 25 to 30, high km anything over 35000. If looked after (regular oil changes)there is no reason for these bikes to go over 50000 km.Things to look for are worn clutches, worn gearboxes, Smokey engines, worn cam chains, cracked frames, bent frames, buckled wheels, oil leks from the cam chain

Make your DVD Player last longer.

Are you one of those people who have bought a cheap DVD player, or maybe even an expensive one, only to find it worn out 18months later? Chances are you are in the habit of leaving a DVD in the player when it has finished, and don't turn it off. The manufacturer won't tell you, nor will the salesman, but what this means is that the laser and motor in your player is working 24/7 and cramming 7 years of normal use into 1-1/2. The solution is simple. When the movie finishes, take the DVD out and turn off the player. As a technician, it makes me sad to see so many appliances end up in landfill before they should.
